The next big thing for humanoid robots? These hands!
China's Hangzhou-based Xynova Future recently unveiled Prima1: 22 degrees of freedom, fully direct drive, tactile sensing, and high-precision force control.
So, what does 22 degrees of freedom mean?
Tesla Optimus's latest generation dexterous hand also boasts 22 degrees of freedom. The UK's Shadow Hand has long been considered a benchmark for high-degree-of-freedom dexterous hands, while Unitree's Dex3 only has 7 degrees of freedom.
Although different companies may calculate degrees of freedom slightly differently, Prima1 has already entered the global top tier for high-degree-of-freedom dexterous hands.
Xynova was only founded at the end of 2024, but quickly completed multiple rounds of funding. By July 2026, it secured ¥500 million in A+ round financing, bringing its total funding to around ¥1.5 billion and pushing its valuation into unicorn territory. Backers include major industry players like CATL, Xiaomi, JD.com, Li Auto, Meituan, and NIO.
The company previously disclosed that it has secured orders for over 10,000 dexterous hands from leading clients and is now aiming for mass delivery at the 10,000-unit scale.
