Optimism has been pulling off some wild moves lately—first quietly pausing buybacks, and now openly proposing to scrap the airdrop allocation.
@Optimism recently announced a governance proposal: reallocating the remaining tokens originally reserved for user airdrops (546.9M $OP) to a strategic ecosystem fund. This sparked strong protests from the community.
Since the proposal was initiated by the OP team, there was some internal consensus, and early voting heavily leaned toward approval. However, as negative sentiment spread, the situation began to shift.
Yesterday, @OlimpioCrypto, a legendary airdrop OG and major $OP holder who initially said they would abstain, changed their stance at the critical moment and cast a vote against the proposal.
Notably, this is the *only* time Olimpio has voted against a proposal out of the 125 governance votes they’ve participated in for Optimism.
Currently, the percentage of votes against has reached 73%. Unless something unexpected happens, the proposal is unlikely to pass.
