I just saw a message from a friend saying that Iran and Oman have reached an agreement. I also came across related reports, and it’s true that the agreement has basically been reached. However, reaching an agreement doesn’t mean the Strait of Hormuz is fully open. In fact, this is just a set of safe passage routes for ships and a maritime traffic management mechanism. Previously, both sides had essentially finalized the geographical coordinates of the routes. Now, they are continuing to discuss technical details and drafting the final Iran-Oman joint statement. Moreover, Iran has repeatedly emphasized that the agreement on navigation routes with Oman does not itself mean the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
