[Apple Develops In-House AI Model for China, Collaborates with Alibaba to Advance Localization and Compliance] According to Reuters, Apple has partnered with Alibaba to train a self-developed large language model tailored for the Chinese market, which will be used in the upcoming 'Apple Intelligence' AI features set to launch in China. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the model was trained with technical support from Alibaba, marking a departure from the previous strategy of solely integrating local third-party models. Chinese regulators completed the filing process for Apple's generative AI services last month, clearing compliance hurdles for the related features to be deployed on the Chinese versions of iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. While Apple will continue to integrate local models such as Alibaba's Qwen in its Chinese versions, the in-house model is expected to strengthen its control over AI terminals in China, addressing competition from domestic smartphone manufacturers like Huawei.
