**[Robinhood Launches Second Venture Capital Fund, Offering Retail Investors Access to Y Combinator Startup Investment Opportunities]** BlockBeats News, August 15: U.S. brokerage Robinhood is further expanding into the private equity market by launching its second venture capital fund, Robinhood Ventures Fund II (RVII), allowing ordinary investors to participate in investments in unlisted startups. RVII was listed on the New York Stock Exchange on August 14, with an offering price of $25 per share and a fundraising target of approximately $225.5 million. On its first day of listing, the fund attracted over 133,000 Robinhood users to invest, with its stock price rising to around $23.83 during Friday's trading session. The fund primarily invests in early-stage private companies with high growth potential, focusing on startups under the Y Combinator accelerator. Y Combinator has previously invested in well-known companies such as OpenAI, Stripe, and DoorDash. Currently, RVII's portfolio includes approximately 80 private companies, with 64% of investments concentrated in the technology sector. The fund's holdings include several AI-related companies, such as AI email automation company Shortwave Communications, AI health assistant SharedGenes, multilingual AI voice agent Samora AI, and AI infrastructure company Speedtrain, among others. Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev previously stated that the company aims to lower the barriers for ordinary investors to enter the private equity market. As more companies choose to delay their IPOs, some wealth growth opportunities are shifting from public markets to private markets. Robinhood Ventures head Sarah Pinto noted that the next generation of outstanding startups is taking shape, and retail investors no longer need to wait until companies go public to participate in their early growth stages. However, RVII adopts a Business Development Company (BDC) structure, making it a closed-end fund with lower liquidity compared to traditional ETFs. Additionally, the fund's annual total expense ratio reaches 4.08%, significantly higher than passive ETFs tracking the S&P 500 index. Robinhood had previously launched its first venture capital fund, Robinhood Ventures Fund I, in March of this year. The company stated that it plans to continue introducing more private equity investment products in the future to meet retail investors' demand for access to private markets. [Original Link]
