The French Ministry of Finance has confirmed that the French Public Finances Directorate was hacked at the end of June, leading to a taxpayer data breach. According to the cybersecurity platform FrenchBreaches, approximately 678,000 people were affected. The leaked information reportedly includes names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, emails, tax identification details, and income data. Among them, nearly 27,000 individuals reported incomes of at least €100,000, and 386 individuals exceeded €1 million. The related database is said to have been put up for sale on the dark web.
While this breach did not directly identify cryptocurrency holders, the leaked income and address information could potentially be used by criminal groups to target high-net-worth individuals, especially as incidents of violent robberies and kidnappings targeting crypto asset holders are on the rise in France. Chainalysis data shows that in the first half of 2026, France recorded 30 publicly disclosed violent attacks of this nature, with losses exceeding $30 million. (The Block)
