OpenAI's Annual Revenue Surpasses $40 Billion, But Chief Revenue Officer Resigns After 8 Months
OpenAI's current annualized revenue has exceeded $40 billion, doubling from $20 billion at the end of 2025. OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman revealed in an internal announcement that the company's annualized revenue grew over 20% month-over-month in July.
The revenue growth is primarily driven by Codex, subscription services, and emerging advertising business. However, on the same day the $40 billion milestone was announced, Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser (former Slack CEO) announced her resignation after just 8 months in the role.
OpenAI has appointed former Wiz president and COO Dali Rajic as the new CRO (Wiz was acquired by Google this year for $32 billion), but this marks OpenAI's second CRO appointment in less than a year.
Competition between OpenAI and Anthropic remains fierce. In May, Anthropic disclosed its annualized revenue had surpassed $47 billion and is expected to go public this fall, ahead of OpenAI.
