According to WuShuo, MSCI's latest consultation document reveals plans to adjust the inclusion criteria for the MSCI Global Investable Market Index (GIMI) regarding 'non-operating companies.' Based on a simulation using May 2026 data, Strategy (MSTR), Yellow Cake, and Metaplanet would be removed, while ETH treasury company SharpLink and others would be placed on the watchlist. The proposed rules aim to identify companies primarily reliant on financing to accumulate investment assets through indicators such as the proportion of operating assets, operating expenses, operating cash flow, fair value changes of non-operating assets, and financing cash flow. MSCI has not made a final decision yet. The consultation period ends on September 30, with results expected to be announced by October 16, and potential implementation during the November index review.
