According to the case details, the defendant Zhao used the bait of 'guaranteed principal with high returns' to persuade the victim Zhang, who had suffered significant losses in investments, to invest the remaining funds in their account into an 'airdrop project' on a certain app. Zhao promised a return of 100 to 200 U coins within two days and falsely claimed that the investment funds would be transferred to a 'public chain.' Believing this to be true, Zhang converted $1,757 into Ethereum and completed the transfer via a wallet link provided by Zhao. In reality, the link corresponded to a personal account registered under Zhao’s girlfriend’s identity. After the incident, Zhang repeatedly urged repayment but received nothing, leading to a police report. The court ruled that Zhao’s actions of deceiving others to obtain property through concealment constituted fraud, with the amount being substantial.
