[A Man in Guizhou Sentenced to 7 Months and Fined 5,000 Yuan for Defrauding a Friend Using a Virtual Currency 'Airdrop Project'] According to Guizhou Chang'an Net, a case of defrauding a friend using a virtual currency 'airdrop project' occurred in Pingba District, Anshun City, Guizhou Province. A man named Zhao had been posting virtual currency investment content on social media platforms for a long time, forming a friendship and gaining the trust of Zhang, who shared the same interest. The two had previously invested together, but after Zhang incurred losses, he wanted to withdraw. On August 23, 2025, Zhao claimed that a certain app had launched an 'airdrop project,' promising a return of 100–200 U coins within two days and guaranteeing to cover any losses himself. He also falsely claimed that the funds would be transferred to a 'public blockchain.' Believing this, Zhang converted $1,757 in his account into Ethereum and transferred it via a link provided by Zhao. In reality, the link directed the funds to a personal wallet registered under Zhao's girlfriend's identity, not a public blockchain. When the promised time came, Zhao made various excuses to avoid returning the money. Zhang reported the incident to the police on September 7. In April 2026, the Pingba District Procuratorate filed charges of fraud against Zhao.
