26% of Gen Z view sports betting as part of their long-term financial planning
According to a survey by Betterment, the line between investing and gambling is becoming blurred for young Americans. About 26% of Gen Z say they intentionally include sports betting as a consistent part of their long-term financial planning.
Meanwhile, 52% of Gen Z investors have redirected funds originally meant for investing into sports betting over the past year. Betterment CEO Sarah Levy warns: "Sports betting platforms are designed for repeated short-term risks, not for retirement outcomes."
Note: Gen Z here refers to those born between 1997-2007. The survey sample included 1,000 U.S. retail investors.
