When CME launched Bitcoin futures in December 2017, BTC hit $20k almost to the day and then crashed over the following year, marked the top.
Futures allowed institutional players to short an asset that had previously only been a one-way retail long.
CME is launching two contracts, Silicon Data H100 Rental Index Futures and Silicon Data B200 Rental Index Futures.
Compute markets are "highly fragmented, and the AI infrastructure trade has been largely a retail/VC/equity long.
However, GPU compute isn't purely a speculative asset it has real, recurring industrial demand.
I think this will provide a floor of fundamental demand and makes a comparable collapse less likely.(James Van Straten)
