[NVIDIA Teams Up with Google and Microsoft to Promote Adoption of 800V DC Power Architecture, Gradually Introducing It to Existing AI Factories] BlockBeats News, August 12 – NVIDIA is collaborating with Google, Microsoft, and over 80 equipment and infrastructure suppliers to promote the adoption of an 800V DC power architecture. This initiative aims to address the challenges of power efficiency and conversion losses caused by the increasing power density of AI server racks. The company plans to gradually implement this architecture in existing AI factories starting in the second half of 2026. NVIDIA stated that the bottleneck for current AI infrastructure is no longer the total power wattage but the efficiency of delivering electricity from the grid to GPUs. The 800V DC architecture can reduce the number of power conversion stages between the grid and accelerators. The company plans to launch 800V DC power racks compatible with the MGX architecture in the second half of 2026, enabling existing data centers to upgrade incrementally without significant modifications to buildings or power systems. For newly built or high-density AI factories, NVIDIA plans to introduce rack-row power centers in 2027. These centers will use overhead 800V DC busbars to supply power to multiple rack rows, with each row supporting up to 2MW of power. In the long term, the company plans to deploy DC Power Blocks at the facility level, directly converting grid electricity into 800V DC power. NVIDIA, Google, and Microsoft are also working through the Open Compute Project to promote standardization in this area. As AI servers evolve from the hundred-kilowatt level to the megawatt level, the specifications for high-voltage DC/DC converters, solid-state transformers, busbars, power semiconductors, and power modules will also be upgraded accordingly.
