According to Crypto Briefing, the Coreum cross-chain bridge connected to the XRP Ledger suffered a security breach on August 9, losing approximately 199,916 XRP in less than two hours. The bridge's balance plummeted from around 200,410 XRP to just 493.5 XRP. Investigations revealed that the attack did not involve vulnerabilities in the XRPL itself or private key leaks. Instead, the attacker exploited a deposit verification flaw in the relayer logic of the bridge. On-chain analysis showed that the attacker transferred the funds within 97 minutes through 94 multi-signature authorized payment transactions. Since the multi-signature mechanism requires 17 out of 28 relayer keys to sign, the attack successfully bypassed the consensus mechanism, approving a series of fraudulent transactions.
