Whoa, starting September 1, Russia can officially trade BTC, ETH, and USDT! In an ideal scenario, this could bring $100 billion in liquidity
The Russian Central Bank announced a new draft regulation today, officially adding Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT to the list of crypto assets that can be publicly traded on Russian exchanges.
Previously, Putin had already signed the bill legalizing crypto trading, and the new framework will take effect on September 1.
Retail investors can buy after passing a test, but each intermediary is capped at 300,000 rubles per year.
Qualified investors also need to pass a test but can trade other cryptocurrencies on exchanges and OTC markets without any limits.
Russia is also allowing crypto for cross-border settlements, but using crypto directly to buy things domestically is still prohibited.
