The Dalian Phase 2 project had previously been stalled for an extended period due to factors such as the sluggish NAND market, inventory adjustments, and U.S. restrictions on semiconductor equipment exports to China. With the expansion of AI data centers driving increased demand for enterprise solid-state drives (eSSD), SK Hynix has decided to resume investment to expand NAND production capacity. The current monthly capacity of the Dalian Phase 1 factory is approximately 100,000 wafers. Upon completion of the Phase 2 project, an additional monthly capacity of about 50,000 wafers is expected, representing an overall capacity increase of approximately 50%. SK Hynix plans to adopt a "dual-track production" strategy, producing mature-process NAND at the Dalian base while concentrating high-end NAND products at its M17 factory in Cheongju, South Korea.
