Looking at the pre-market, Western Digital, Micron, SK Hynix, and Intel are all relatively weak; on the other hand, optical networking stocks like LITE and COHR continue to show strength, and even Marvell is gaining momentum.
This situation indicates:
1. In the previous phase, there was a rally led by storage stocks, but after a pullback, we’re seeing some divergence.
2. Pure storage plays like Micron and SK Hynix, which were the strongest performers earlier, now have the most profit-taking and trapped positions, so their adjustments might feel more painful. After all, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
3. It’s clear that after the storage sector’s pullback, funds in the U.S. stock market are being redistributed in an orderly, phased manner to other sectors. Recently, optical networking has been making the most headlines and grabbing the most attention, so it’s performing the best.
If Wednesday’s CPI data turns out to be a positive catalyst and a chance for the overall market to rally, then expecting Micron and SK Hynix to drop to new lows on Monday or Tuesday for a big dip-buying opportunity seems unrealistic. Most likely, they’ll continue to fluctuate with high volatility in this range to shake out weak hands.
Looking at other markets:
1. Gold made a push upward, and the 4333-4576 range can be seen as a resistance zone. Currently, gold is consolidating strongly near the lower edge of this resistance zone.
2. Bitcoin and Ethereum, especially Ethereum, have shown relatively strong performance since their first peak in July, consolidating sideways instead of dropping sharply.
So, the key catalyst this week is Wednesday’s CPI data. If the market interprets it as positive, it will likely follow the red line in the chart. If it’s seen as negative, it might dip along the black line before climbing again.
This also ties into the hardware sector (Micron, SK Hynix): whether they’ll break new lows before rebounding or consolidate and then continue to rebound remains to be seen.
