Intel fell 4.62% before trading, as the company plans to raise $15 billion to expand its AI investment and join the wave of AI infrastructure financing
BlockBeats News: On August 10th, Intel announced plans to raise approximately $15 billion through a public offering of common stock to strengthen its balance sheet and support investments in AI computing, self-developed chips, advanced packaging, external wafer foundry services, and "physical AI" related businesses. The company stated that the proceeds from this fundraising will be used for general corporate purposes, including capital expenditures and working capital, to support future growth opportunities while maintaining an investment grade credit rating. This issuance is led by underwriters and is not an ATM plan similar to 'selling stocks at any time'. Currently, the shares have not been priced or sold. The underwriters are expected to receive a 30 day over allotment option to purchase up to $2.25 billion worth of additional shares, bringing the maximum fundraising size to $17.25 billion. JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Citigroup serve as joint bookkeepers. Intel's stock price has risen by over 175% since the beginning of this year, but due to fundraising news, it fell 4.62% before Monday trading. This financing comes at a time when global AI infrastructure investment is entering a phase of rapid expansion. According to reports, the scale of AI capital expenditure is expected to reach $1 trillion this year, and ultra large scale cloud computing enterprises are gradually shifting from relying on free cash flow and debt financing to equity financing. Previously, Google's parent company Alphabet had entered the equity market on a large scale to raise funds, while Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta still relied mainly on cash flow, debt, leasing, and structured financing to support AI expansion. Goldman Sachs predicts that the capital expenditures of large-scale cloud providers may further rise to $1.4 trillion by 2027. Intel's recent fundraising is seen as another example in the wave of AI infrastructure investment, indicating that as the demand for AI computing power continues to expand, related companies are seeking more capital channels to support long-term expansion.
