[Data: Over 100 Crypto Projects Have Shut Down, Filed for Bankruptcy, or Permanently Ceased Operations Since 2026]
According to CoinDesk citing RootData, over 100 crypto projects have shut down, filed for bankruptcy, or permanently ceased operations since 2026, with the pace of exits accelerating. These include exchanges, wallets, DeFi lending protocols, NFT marketplaces, and Layer 1 blockchains across various sectors. The report noted that this wave of industry reshuffling is similar to the consolidation following the burst of the internet bubble. Recently, the prices of altcoins have generally dropped by 70% to 90%, leading to a significant shrinkage in project treasuries denominated in tokens. Meanwhile, tighter financing conditions and rising costs of security attacks are accelerating the clearance of projects lacking genuine revenue and users.
