Michael Saylor: Selling Bitcoin was to prove the market wouldn’t crash because of it
Strategy founder Michael Saylor @saylor shared in an interview with The Diary Of A CEO channel on August 6 that the market once believed Strategy wouldn’t dare sell Bitcoin, as doing so might cause Bitcoin to crash and put the company into a ‘death spiral’ of continuously selling shares to pay dividends. To break this narrative, Strategy actually sold Bitcoin when it was around $59K to $60K, and the price ended up rising instead. Saylor mentioned that the company’s breakeven point is around 3.2%, meaning as long as Bitcoin appreciates to this level, they can pay dividends by selling a portion of their Bitcoin holdings without needing to sell more equity.
