[Former SK Hynix Employee Leaked Trade Secrets to Chinese Company, Sentenced to 1 Year and 6 Months in Second Trial]
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul High Court recently upheld the first-instance verdict in the case of Kim (alias), who was accused of violating the *Industrial Technology Protection Act*, the *Unfair Competition Prevention Act*, and breach of trust in business. Kim was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
Kim previously worked for SK Hynix's local subsidiary in China. In 2022, in order to switch jobs to Chinese companies (including Huawei's subsidiary HiSilicon, among others), he unlawfully leaked and used advanced technology and trade secrets related to the company's CIS (CMOS Image Sensor). He violated security regulations by printing or photographing confidential materials from the company's internal document management system to prepare his resume, and even directly included some of the content in the resume submitted to the Chinese companies.
