[SK Hynix Considering Selling Equity in Chongqing Plant to Support Large-Scale Investment in South Korea]
DeepTech TechFlow reports that on August 9, SK Hynix is exploring options such as introducing external investors or selling part of the equity in its Chongqing plant, which is valued at approximately $3 billion. This plant serves as a key semiconductor post-processing base for SK Hynix in China. The discussions are still in the early stages, and the transaction may not ultimately materialize.
This asset adjustment has drawn attention primarily because SK Hynix is simultaneously advancing large-scale expansion plans within South Korea. The company previously announced significant investments in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and the Cheongju production base to build next-generation DRAM memory and high-bandwidth storage capacity.
Against the backdrop of growing demand for memory chips driven by advancements in artificial intelligence, if the equity transaction for the Chongqing plant goes through, it is expected to help improve asset operational efficiency and strengthen funding support for domestic investments.
