[Iran Nears Agreement with Oman on Strait Management] BlockBeats News, August 9 – On August 8, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that Iran is currently in negotiations with Oman regarding the legal framework, management methods, and determination of shipping routes for the Strait of Hormuz. The two sides are very close to reaching an agreement. However, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz still depends on other conditions, including the United States addressing its violations of the Iran-U.S. Memorandum of Understanding. Araghchi noted that the Strait of Hormuz previously operated under a traffic separation scheme, but Iran believes the original route is no longer suitable for vessel navigation and cannot accept its continued use. Therefore, it is necessary to plan a new navigation mechanism, though this involves complex technical and legal issues. Currently, the two sides are discussing a temporary navigation route. Before a new official navigation route is finalized, a temporary channel will be established as the foundation for the future official route. On this issue, the military departments of both Iran and Oman have begun consultations based on existing nautical charts. Once the relevant negotiations are completed and a final conclusion is reached, the new navigation route will be determined.
