A weak non-farm payroll report made this BTC short whale spend $477,600 to buy back $300 of 'breathing room'
Last night, the non-farm payroll data fell far below expectations, rate-cut trades heated up, U.S. Treasury yields and the dollar weakened, and BTC quickly surged past $65,000.
Meanwhile, the whale at 0xff84…8f1d, who was less than 0.06% away from liquidation, finally started to massively reduce their position:
- Closed 300 BTC shorts at $65,091, losing $266,700;
- Closed 100 BTC shorts at $65,217, losing $101,500;
- Closed 50 BTC shorts each at $65,274 and $65,318, losing a total of $109,400.
In total, 500 BTC shorts were closed at an average price of $65,158, resulting in a realized loss of $477,600.
Afterward, as BTC pulled back, they only added back 30 BTC at $64,514. In other words, their position dropped from 1,400 BTC to 930 BTC, a 33.6% reduction; the amount added back is only 6% of the amount reduced in this round.
Current smart money position: 930 BTC shorts, valued at $60.35 million, with a cost basis of $64,212.5, an unrealized loss of $636,600, and a liquidation price of $65,306.34.
Reducing the position raised the liquidation price from $65,006 yesterday to $65,306, expanding the safety margin by about $300. However, based on the current price of $64,898, the liquidation threshold is still only 0.63% away.
