'Reduce Issuance' or 'Undermine Incentives'? Ethereum EIP-8363 Staking Reform Sparks Intense Community Debate
PANews|Aug 07, 2026 16:21
According to Cointelegraph, Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-8363 ('Tapered Issuance Burn') aims to gradually reduce staking rewards to lower the network's new issuance rate. However, the proposal has recently faced significant opposition from many community members, triggering one of the largest debates over the economic model since Ethereum's Merge. Currently, approximately 41.5 million ETH is staked, accounting for about 34% of the total supply, with a staking yield of around 2.67%. Supporters argue that reducing issuance could enhance ETH's long-term monetary properties, while opponents believe that market mechanisms will naturally limit staking growth, making adjustments to issuance policy unnecessary.
