Mining company Hut 8 reports cash exceeding $7 billion, but restricted funds account for 96.7%
According to Cryptoslate, as of June 30th, Bitcoin mining company Hut 8 reported that its cash, restricted cash, and cash equivalents exceeded $7 billion. However, its quarterly report submitted on August 4th showed that only $233.6 million was unrestricted cash available for general corporate use. The remaining $6.8 billion (96.7% of the total) is restricted cash. Most of the funds are restricted from being used for the construction and debt repayment of the River Bend and Beacon Point projects, which limits their flexible liquidity. It is currently unclear whether project delays or overspending will force the parent company to increase equity investments before the repayment of project debt principal begins in 2028 and 2030.
