[Goldman Sachs Deploys AI Software Engineers on a Large Scale, Boosting Productivity by 3-4 Times but Raising Layoff Concerns]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow on August 6, Forbes reported that Goldman Sachs is extensively applying Agentic AI in the field of software engineering, deploying virtual AI software engineers, represented by Devin, to collaborate with its 12,000 human engineers. These AI agents are tasked with modernizing legacy IT systems and can independently handle the entire workflow, including project planning, coding, testing, and bug fixing. Goldman Sachs CIO Marco Argenti likened Devin to a "new hire" and noted that its productivity is 3-4 times that of previous AI tools, significantly shortening development cycles.
Additionally, Goldman Sachs has introduced Anthropic's Claude to further expand the scope of AI applications. Although Goldman Sachs emphasizes that AI is positioned as "augmentative support" rather than a replacement for human labor, concerns within the industry about the loss of entry-level engineering jobs continue to grow. Predictions suggest that the AI wave could lead to the disappearance of approximately 200,000 jobs in the U.S. banking sector. How to maintain talent development pipelines has become a pressing challenge for industries embracing Agentic AI.
