[Japanese Finance Minister Cites Besent's View, Denies U.S. Pressure] According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on August 5, Japanese Finance Minister Katsuyuki Katayama stated that U.S. Treasury Secretary Besent believes Japan's fiscal situation is improving. Previously, after Washington assisted Tokyo in supporting the yen, Besent gave a series of interviews, and Katayama made the above remarks afterward. "Overall, Besent indicated that Japan is moving toward fiscal discipline," Katayama said, quoting Besent's comments during interviews with multiple media outlets overnight. She also refuted claims that the U.S. Treasury Secretary was attempting to exert policy pressure on Japan. Katayama stated, "If any foreign government believed Japan was not properly managing its policies, they would not be willing to cooperate with us." Katsuyuki Katayama further noted that Besent has long supported Japan's strategy to promote economic growth. (Jin10)
