While holding nearly 19,000 BTC, SpaceX spent $15.8 billion in a single quarter to grab AI computing power.
This financial report from SpaceX might be more worth a look for the crypto community than the rockets themselves.
Q2 revenue: $7.8 billion, up 92% year-over-year; adjusted EBITDA reached $3.5 billion.
The numbers are impressive, but what’s truly noteworthy is how it’s simultaneously betting on two narratives most familiar to the crypto space:
BTC and AI.
On one hand, holding nearly 19,000 BTC means price fluctuations will impact the value of its holdings and its financial performance.
On the other hand, it’s continuously investing in AI computing power, with cloud services and related products ramping up as well.
Looking at this from the perspective of the crypto market, there are at least two signals:
1. Corporate BTC holdings aren’t a guaranteed win after purchase.
Once BTC enters a company’s balance sheet, its price movements will ultimately reflect in financial data.
2. The AI race has entered a stage where it’s all about heavy investment.
No matter how grand the narrative, it ultimately comes down to whether the investment can be converted into revenue.
This also reminds me of many crypto projects:
Valuations can skyrocket, and narratives can be painted big, but in the end, there’s no escaping one question:
After spending so much money, how will you make it back in the future?
So, what do you think about SpaceX’s financial report?
Is it bullish for the crypto market, or just a signal for observing risk appetite?
