[Coldcard: 'The current firmware will permanently brick Coldcard devices' claim is inaccurate]
Coldcard announced on the X platform that the claim 'the current firmware will permanently brick Coldcard devices' is not accurate. Coldcard stated that if a device encounters a TRNG (True Random Number Generator) failure, users only need to perform a power cycle: completely remove all power sources and then restart the device. This failure state is volatile and will not be written to the device's flash memory. The system will handle it in a 'fail closed' manner, ensuring it does not cause permanent damage to the device. Coldcard reminds users to continue following previous security recommendations to manage related risks and noted that a follow-up fix is in progress.
