Both the Minimax H3 and Kimi K3 open-weight models have adopted a new type of licensing model, paving the way for new explorations in the commercialization of large models:
1. Open weights → Quickly capture the ecosystem, developers, community buzz, domestic chip adaptation, and counter the closed nature of proprietary models;
2. Free or low-barrier access for small companies/individuals/research → Foster the ecosystem, expand influence, and enable widespread fine-tuning and deployment of the model;
3. Licensing required for large companies/cloud providers/large-scale MaaS → Prevent exploitation by giants reselling for free, protect API/subscription/enterprise service revenue, and reserve commercialization potential for future IPOs or funding rounds.
