That smart money just picked up SKHX shorts again. Last Friday, Korean stocks surged over 17%, but today the market has entered a profit-taking phase: KOSPI quickly dropped about 4%, with both Samsung and SK Hynix falling over 6%. Today, as prices fell back, they added net shorts of 1,252.5 SKHX and 760.5 SMSN. Here’s the latest snapshot of their positions: - SKHX shorts: Position size 7,030.47, value $7.7926M, unrealized profit $323.1K - SMSN shorts: Position size 31,900, value $5.396M, unrealized loss $139.2K - BRENTOIL shorts: Position size 140K, value $11.7152M, unrealized profit $1.9624M As of now, this smart money account has an unrealized profit of $2.1575M, but the main contributor is BRENTOIL, not the Korean chip shorts. What’s more interesting is that this smart money previously held up to 50,100 SKHX shorts worth $45.34M, but now only holds 7,030 SKHX worth $7.79M. The SKHX shorts are now just about 17% of their peak nominal size, but the SMSN position remains close to previous levels. In other words, they haven’t returned to their heavy SK Hynix short position but have instead rebalanced their Korean chip short exposure. After profiting from Brent oil shorts, they’ve slightly increased their SKHX and SMSN risk exposure. So, this isn’t just a simple continuation of bearishness on Korean stocks. It’s more like: Expand positions after confirmation of a drop → Massively reduce positions during a short squeeze → Rebuild small positions after the rebound fades → Simultaneously cash out other profitable positions. Friday’s short squeeze didn’t turn them bullish, but it clearly reduced their conviction in SKHX.
