[Coldcard: Vulnerable Firmware Inventory Destroyed, Affected Users Urged to Migrate Funds Promptly]
BlockBeats News, August 3 — Bitcoin hardware wallet manufacturer Coldcard tweeted that the past three days have been among the most challenging periods in the company's history, with some users experiencing losses to years of savings. Since last Friday, the team has been actively contacting customers to assist in transferring still-secure funds and providing recovery guidance. The company has now destroyed the remaining inventory of COLDCARD wallets produced with the vulnerable firmware and has suspended shipments. Satscard, Opendime, and Tapsigner are not affected. A released patch firmware prevents newly generated seed phrases from being impacted, but old seed phrases generated on the vulnerable firmware remain at risk. Users are advised to create new wallets and transfer their funds. The official recommendation is to temporarily consider alternatives such as Bitkey, Ledger, Trezor, Jade, and Bitbox. Affected users are also urged to retain their devices to assist with potential future recovery efforts. [Original Link]
