[Over 124,000 layoffs in the tech industry in the first seven months of 2026, surpassing the total for 2025]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on August 2, over 124,000 layoffs occurred in the global tech industry during the first seven months of 2026, surpassing the total number for the entire year of 2025. The majority of layoffs came from companies such as Oracle, Amazon, Dell, and Meta. Meanwhile, Meta and Amazon have raised their capital expenditure forecasts for 2026 to several hundred billion dollars, and Oracle announced plans to invest $90 billion in building AI infrastructure in the next fiscal year. PwC research suggests that companies heavily adopting AI are experiencing faster employee growth rates, and AI may ultimately become a creator of jobs rather than a disruptor.
