I haven't talked about the basic operations of Bitcoin for a long time, and I found that many people are still confused
1. Regardless of the hardware wallet, you need to add a pass phrase on top of the mnemonic words, because others (children/wives/relatives/servants) may see your mnemonic words. An important assumption is that even if the mnemonic words are already known, the coin must still be secure
2. Multi signature is very simple, not covered in the tutorial. You can ask AI. The purpose of multi signature is to further protect the source of the address, allowing others to obtain hardware wallets/mnemonics/even passphrases in a timely manner without taking your coins away so quickly, because multi signature can be very complicated,
for example,
The first private key seed1+pass1, the second seed2+pass2
or
seed1 , pass , seed2 …
or
Seed1+derived path, Seed1 (beginners should not use derived paths)
Wait
Others don't know how you generated it, so even if you use mnemonic words, it's useless
My personal suggestion is to use signatures in the forms of 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, and 3-2. If they are too complicated, it will only make things difficult for oneself and there is no need for them
Recommended practice for multiple signatures:
trezor + electrum
or
Onekey Vault (Have you done it yet @ ohyishi)
3. Hardware wallet selection, I don't know anyone else, personally I am Trezor ➕ Onekey, trezor operates Bitcoin, onekey does defi or onchain
I don't need anything else, of course, even if you're like me, you still need to refer to 1. Don't trust any hardware 100%, leave yourself a way out
I don't recommend iPhones like this. You haven't experienced the various problems of old iPhones not being able to restart no matter what, and the app wallet on it may not have been maintained for a long time. Even if someone maintains it, your coins cannot be transferred because the old version is no longer used, and the previous maintenance staff has resigned. Several friends have asked me for help because of iPhone or the app on it
What should I do if I fail? Can multiple signatures not be passed down? The solution is too simple. You can sign a transaction on the cold wallet that you usually can't access, and set a timelock (which is included in Electrum), preferably five years later. Give the signed transaction information rawtx to your lawyer (or family). It's useless for them to broadcast this transaction online now because there is a time lock, and the transaction cannot be confirmed at all. It can only be confirmed five years later. The private key of the receiving address should be kept by your family, and it is best to use a multi signature address, such as how many children do you have
If anything goes wrong, he will be able to receive these coins in five years. If you change your mind, just change your address or UTXO within five years
5. Having multiple signatures is too complicated, and you may have forgotten the mnemonic/phrase/path, etc. What should you do? What should I do if my hardware wallet is broken? What if your house is raided?
It's simple, it can be used as insurance for you to lose mnemonic words. You can sign a transaction rawtx without a time lock on the cold storage, and set the receiving address as the exchange address or another backup address for future use
Once the above situation occurs, you just need to broadcast this transaction. You need to keep this rawtx in a suitable place, and you are not afraid of others knowing its contents because the receiving address is your own
6. Be careful not to disclose your Bitcoin address, as this is privacy. Because others can know how much money you have and analyze your multi signature structure from your transaction information. These need to be kept confidential
7. Sign more of this kind of thing. People with normal intelligence can figure it out in at most an hour. Please don't say it's too difficult, I don't want to hear such words
If you are my fan, these are all common sense. I said them a few years ago
