PeckShield: Coinkite hardware wallet firmware vulnerability may be linked to a $38M Bitcoin theft incident
According to PeckShieldAlert, hardware wallet manufacturer Coinkite has disclosed a critical entropy generation flaw in its COLDCARD hardware wallet firmware, affecting Mk2 and Mk3 devices. This flaw could potentially weaken the security strength of mnemonic seed generation on the impacted firmware. Reports have already linked this vulnerability to a $38 million BTC theft incident.
The project team recommends that users who generated seeds on the affected firmware should upgrade to the patched firmware as soon as possible, regenerate new seeds, and complete asset migration.
