A fan sent me his portfolio—nearly 400K in principal, all-in on star stocks Demingli and Zhaoyi Innovation. He's already lost over 200K, more than 50%, and the chances of breaking even in the short term are very slim.
Looking at his portfolio, I gave him four pieces of advice:
1. **All-in**
This approach leaves no room for flexibility. It's either a big win or a big loss. If he wins, fine, but I bet he'd cash out with just a small profit. Once losses hit, though, it's devastating.
2. **Chasing highs**
Demingli and Zhaoyi Innovation were hot stocks earlier, with prices already multiplying several times. Jumping in at this stage? High chance you'll end up stuck at the peak.
3. **Holding on after losses**
This investor clearly lacks a stop-loss strategy. After buying the stocks, he kept holding as they dropped, refusing to cut losses at any point, hoping for a rebound instead. This only made the losses worse.
4. **Severe gambler's mentality**
Going all-in on high-priced stocks with zero risk awareness—he's only thinking about how much he could make, not what happens if he loses.
