Opus 5 accidentally deleted the production database, wiping out 22 tables in 15 minutes
Recently, a developer posted on Reddit claiming that while using Claude Code (Opus 5), a migration command mistakenly pointed the Shadow database to the production environment, resulting in 22 tables in Supabase being wiped clean, along with the loss of 130 tools, user comments, and other data.
The AI involved admitted in the operation log: 'This is my fault, I need to tell you immediately.'
The incident quickly went viral on X and developer forums. Some comments joked: '4.6 Sonnet and Gemini 3 didn’t delete any databases, but Opus 5 came in and pulled off a big one.'
Subsequently, the developer used Gemini 3.6 to assist in recovering most of the content from 96 pages, with only 21 pages needing to be rebuilt due to lack of backups. Since the project was for testing purposes and had very few users, the actual business impact was limited. As of now, all pages have been successfully restored.
