[OpenAI AI Smartphone Mass Production Plan Moved Up to the First Half of 2027, Two-Year Shipments May Reach 30 Million Units]
According to MacRumors, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revised the expected mass production timeline for OpenAI's AI smartphone from 2028 to the first half of 2027. The device is reportedly designed around an AI agent interface that continuously perceives user context, rather than traditional applications. It may feature a custom MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chip built on TSMC's N2P process, with Luxshare Precision serving as the exclusive manufacturing partner. If development proceeds as planned, combined shipments for 2027 and 2028 could reach approximately 30 million units.
The report also mentions that OpenAI's first hardware product is expected to be a portable screenless smart speaker developed in collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive. Other devices, such as smart glasses, smart lamps, and headphones, are also part of longer-term development plans, though some projects may still be canceled.
