[Claude Zero-Cost Purchase Leads to Account Suspension Wave, Paid Accounts Also Affected] According to monitoring by Beating, Anthropic has once again initiated large-scale account suspensions. The trigger was the Claude Max 20x 'zero-cost purchase' exploit that emerged over the weekend. Users were able to access the German SEPA debit entry point and input a correctly formatted IBAN. The system would grant the $200 monthly Max 20x subscription benefits before confirming whether the payment had been received. The exploit lasted for several hours before being patched. Subscriptions activated through the exploit were subsequently revoked, and related accounts began to be suspended. However, the scope of account suspensions appears to extend beyond those exploiting the loophole. Numerous reports from the community indicate that normal users have been affected, including long-standing accounts, paid subscription accounts, and even free accounts that never used the exploit. Some companies have reported multiple employees being suspended on the same day. There is speculation that shared IPs, devices, or payment environments may have triggered collateral risk controls. As of now, Anthropic has not disclosed the number of accounts suspended nor addressed whether there has been widespread collateral damage. [Original Link]
