According to Edaily, the Chairman of South Korea's Financial Services Commission, Lee Won-kyun (phonetic), stated during the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee plenary meeting that the goal is to finalize the 'Basic Act on Digital Assets' (Phase 2 legislation) within the year and advance legislation for stablecoin integration. The scope includes defining digital assets, regulations, institutionalizing stablecoin issuance and circulation, exchange entry requirements, and anti-money laundering (AML) oversight.
Additionally, the Financial Services Commission is considering opening the corporate market, which could mean easing or lifting the 'separation of gold and assets' (prohibition on financial institutions holding crypto asset equity) restrictions after 9 years. The Political Affairs Committee has planned to hold four subcommittee meetings per month to expedite the review of related bills.
