Today CZ said something: 'Another tough time. If you know how to keep your private keys, self-custody.'
Everyone's focusing on the second half—self-custody, holding your own keys.
But I'm fixated on the word in the first half: 'Another.'
Bear markets are never just one big crash. They're a slow bleed.
So far this year, 99 crypto projects have died. Two exchanges shut down in just one week. None of them made the 'major collapse' headlines—just a small line of text, quietly shutting down, quietly going to zero. And at the same time, there are still people cheering for 'buying the dip' and 'consolidation.'
I've been shorting for so long, and I never focus on whether the market will go up or down tomorrow. What I watch is this script—exchanges shutting down, projects dying, platform tokens going to zero, newcomers holding the bag—it plays out once a year, and every time, someone thinks this time will be different.
My biggest losses over the past six months weren’t from a few big trades that went the wrong way. It was during those sideways markets, when I got itchy fingers and kept trading in and out, slicing away at profits that I should’ve held onto, until they turned into losses.
What really wipes people out isn’t a single day’s crash. It’s that 'another'—making the same mistake, repackaged, year after year.
The market is open every day. That doesn’t mean you need to show up every day.
