[South Korea's SK Telecom Invests 750 Billion KRW to Establish SK Hyper, Focusing on AI Data Centers] According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on July 27, IT Home reported that South Korea's SK Telecom announced on July 23 the establishment of a wholly-owned subsidiary, SK Hyper, dedicated to AI data center operations. SK Telecom plans to inject 750 billion KRW (approximately 3.453 billion RMB) into the subsidiary by 2030. The initial goal is to build AI data centers with a total capacity of 5GW by 2029 and expand to 15GW by 2035 based on market demand. In terms of construction layout, SK Hyper will prioritize building a data center cluster in Ulsan, South Korea, and further expand gigawatt-level facilities in the Chungcheong region.
