OpenAI steps in personally—AI customer service is about to change the game❗️ OpenAI couldn’t sit still any longer. On July 22, OpenAI launched Presence: an AI Agent deployment product for enterprises, covering both voice and text channels. And they didn’t just talk the talk—they walked the walk. Presence is already running on OpenAI’s own customer service hotline, 1-888-GPT-0090, where 75% of calls require no human intervention. Within just a few weeks, the AI service quality has surpassed the benchmark for human customer service. Each Agent focuses on doing one thing well. Enterprises define the scope, Codex steps in to optimize, and within 10 days, the human handoff rate dropped by 15 percentage points. This is a direct-to-consumer play, cutting out the middleman. Salesforce, Zendesk, Intercom—these companies that built their AI customer service solutions using OpenAI’s models are now competing with their own model supplier for the same enterprise clients. The line between API providers and platform players is getting blurrier. The market potential is huge: by 2026, the global AI customer service market is projected to hit $15.1 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 25.6%. The cost per interaction? $1.84 for AI self-service versus $13.50 for human agents—a 7x difference. But OpenAI is eyeing an even bigger prize: the $77.8 billion customer service software market. There are still some very real questions: pricing hasn’t been announced, geographic availability is unclear, and there’s no word on whether it will support third-party models. For now, Presence relies on FDE on-premises deployment, which comes with obvious scalability limits. The business logic, however, is crystal clear: margins on model APIs are shrinking, while deployment and governance layers are where the high profits lie. OpenAI has turned its own customer service hotline into a showcase, and that 75% resolution rate is a number they can bring to the negotiation table. Next steps to watch: how many enterprises will bypass Salesforce and go directly to OpenAI once pricing is revealed? And when will a self-service version of Presence launch? Only by overcoming the on-premises bottleneck can OpenAI truly claim a seat at the $77.8 billion table. #AI #CustomerService #OpenAI #Presence #TechNews #Innovation
