According to TheEnergyMag, preliminary data disclosed by Alexander Neumueller, Head of Research at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF), during the Energy Investors Forum shows that Bitcoin mining's annualized electricity consumption is expected to increase from 138 TWh to approximately 190 TWh between June 2024 and December 2025, a growth of about 38%. During the same period, greenhouse gas emissions are projected to rise from around 40 million tons of CO2 equivalent to 48 million tons, an increase of about 20%. The share of low-carbon energy in mining's electricity mix is set to grow from 52.4% to 59.4%, with hydropower surpassing natural gas to become the largest single energy source.
