During the Artemis II recovery mission, one U.S. Navy diver wore a patch that read, “Not Flat, We Checked,” adding a humorous touch to the historic operation.
A U.S. Navy diver went viral after wearing a “NOT FLAT, WE’VE CHECKED” morale patch on his helmet during the Artemis II spacecraft recovery mission. The patch humorously mocked Flat Earth theories while borrowing the design style of NASA’s iconic round “meatball” logo.
The patch was spotted on a rescue swimmer from Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 1, who helped secure the Orion capsule after its historic lunar mission. Custom morale patches are a long-standing military tradition, allowing teams to build camaraderie and share inside jokes. After traveling nearly 700,000 miles around the Moon, the Artemis recovery crew had a unique firsthand perspective behind the joke.(Historic Vids)
