Another cross-chain bridge incident.
This time, it’s the Cardano—BNB Chain bridge operated by Wanchain.
Approximately 515 million NIGHT tokens were transferred abnormally, followed by a large influx of tokens into the market, causing the price to plummet. Midnight quickly clarified: the mainnet is fine, consensus is fine, the issue occurred with the third-party cross-chain bridge.
Technically, this statement might be correct.
But after hearing it, users are usually left with just one question:
The chain is fine, but what about my money?
Cross-chain bridges have always been the most controversial product in the crypto space.
Everyone wants assets to flow freely between different chains, so they concentrate a large amount of assets into a more complex system and hope it never fails.
Every time something goes wrong, we end up with the same conclusion:
The most dangerous part isn’t necessarily the two sides of the river.
It might be the bridge in the middle that claims to be the safest.
