[SK Hynix Leader's Divorce Case Verdict Today, Massive Wealth Division May Reshape Corporate Landscape]
BlockBeats News, July 24 – SK Hynix leader Chey Tae-won is set to face a new court ruling in his long-standing divorce dispute with his ex-wife. This case is likely to become the most expensive divorce settlement in South Korea's history. The Seoul High Court will announce the verdict on Friday, determining how much of Chey Tae-won's $5.5 billion fortune should be divided with his ex-wife, Roh Soh-yeong.
The core issue of this ruling lies in how the South Korean court evaluates the value of Roh Soh-yeong's contributions to building one of South Korea's largest corporate empires. Roh initially demanded 42.29% of Chey Tae-won's shares in SK, a request that could potentially affect his control over the company. She later adjusted her claim to request a cash settlement.
In 2024, the court had previously ruled that Chey Tae-won should pay Roh Soh-yeong 1.38 trillion won (approximately $1 billion) in divorce compensation, setting a record for the highest divorce settlement in South Korea. However, after Chey Tae-won appealed, the South Korean Supreme Court overturned the ruling, citing that the previous decision had erroneously included contributions from illegal funds allegedly linked to Roh Soh-yeong's father, former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo, in the couple's wealth calculation.
