[U.S. House of Representatives Passes Bill to Restrict Stock Trading by Lawmakers] According to a report by Golden Finance on July 23, Politico stated that the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Wednesday aimed at restricting stock trading by members of Congress and their families. However, the bill has caused division within the Democratic Party, as some members believe the measure is not stringent enough. The bill, titled the 'Stop Insider Trading Act,' is the first congressional stock trading ban to be voted on by the full House, ultimately passing with a vote of 232 to 198, including 13 Democratic lawmakers voting in favor. Among the 93 lawmakers who co-sponsored the bill, only two were Democrats. Another bill with stricter measures—requiring lawmakers and their families to sell their currently held individual stocks—garnered broader bipartisan support but failed to advance to a full House vote. Most Democrats believe the passed measure is insufficient because it does not include a mandatory provision for selling existing holdings. The bill will now be submitted to the Senate for review.
