Every time I visit a different country or region, I usually bring back some local specialty alcohol. This time in Japan, I originally planned to get some sake, so I mainly focused on sake. But honestly, I don’t know much about sake, so I basically asked ChatGPT for recommendations on what’s worth buying.
Here’s the ranking ChatGPT gave me without a budget limit (in JPY):
1st: IWA 5 (around ¥20,000)
2nd: Hoten Akita (穂田秋田) Junmai Daiginjo (around ¥40,000)
3rd: Kubota Manju (around ¥23,900)
4th: Hakkaisan 3-Year Aged (around ¥20,000)
5th: Dassai (premium version)
6th: ZAKU
I was originally planning to buy IWA 5 or Hoten Akita, but then ChatGPT suggested I hold off and check out the whiskey section first. It said if I happened to come across Yamazaki 18-Year, Hakushu 18-Year, or Hibiki 21-Year, their rarity, investment potential, and international recognition would overall surpass most of the sake I was looking at.
So, I went to check out the whiskey section, and that was the end of the sake story. Here’s ChatGPT’s ranking:
Hibiki 21-Year ≈ Yamazaki 18-Year > Hakushu 18-Year > IWA 5 > Kubota Manju > Hakkaisan 3-Year Aged.
